When flying at night, it would be easy to confuse this beautiful coastal city of Las Vegas, with all the neon lights. From sidewalk vendors, the fish market, art galleries, everyone had a smile and was glad to see you. We never had the feeling that there are welcome, and were on their way many times when we were transferred in time helped. We thought at first that we're through rose-colored glasses, as it was our first stop in China, but after the trip, Iand my trusted lawyer "Uncle the Monaco" has agreed, and gave two thumbs up in Xiamen, a rare event, I can assure you that it really was one of the highlights of our trip.
None of us had heard of Xiamen, or met anyone who was there to get a local word of mouth. As "Cheap Charlie" that we, we stood there, for the simple reason that this is the cheapest flight we could get in China. We took an Air Asia from Bangkok Thailand for about$ 125, took a lot for an international flight, about 3 hours.
When we arrived, we did not know where we went, and had only a couple of looks in a small internet card for the layout of the city, and we were completely at the mercy of taxi drivers almost midnight. We showed the name of the hotel we had booked online, and took us to a hotel, but the name has been implemented, this is obviously wrong as the doorman at the hotel said the taxiDriver took us then to the right. At the second hotel, but we who have been deceived, as the name was different about the signs hotel, we had written, but it was the best. What I did not mention is that we assessed the car plate was removed from the 'airport, which we do not, because almost always end up being ripped off, but when we got back to the airport, went the rate was almost the same piece assistance, without more laps around the city that wereceived the first night! Another nice thing that happened was our first night, we exchanged yuan USD at the airport, which was the official exchange rate, with carved into the airport concession, I do not remember ever happening before in an airport.
The rooms at the hotel PT Zhong was a little 'tight, the amenities a 3 stars, however, and at $ 25 per night was a bargain. I had the opportunity to spend the end of my trip in a couple of days in Beijing,Shanghai and Xiamen. I chose Xiamen as the city seemed cooler with lots of fun things to me, and the prices were lower. It did not hurt that it was further south, so that the temperature was more moderate than the capital and Shanghai, at the end of March.
When I came back, I slept in a little jewel in the rough called Duo Rung Hotel from $ 20 per night, was one of the best accommodation offers, which we found in China, whether for a pension or hotel rooms. The hotel was a kindclean as it was spacious, with an Art Deco style furniture, and I liked the niche that dominated the way, what a great view located in a boutique shopping area a few blocks from the sea.
